I get one anyway ?   Maybe.  My software center filter is
working pretty good, even at f11.

But you are talking about digital aren't you - Software filter? Please
explain further. As far as a center filter goes, it is not mandatory every
time. I use them, but not for every image. I still believe it is mandatory
that you have one, though.
