3 parts for your equation: printing device, viewer distance, and output size.
you can make a great 40 ft billboard with a 40mb file. I used to shoot
with the dicomed 4x5 scan back. If a client asked for file larger than
50mb I would ask why. 9 out of 10 times they wouldn't need it. I hardly
ever need a file bigger than 70mb but one can make a beautiful large pano
print with a 30mb file or even less. I make great epson 6 color 4x20 inch
panos with 10 mb files.
tell me how large and what printer and what wall and I'll say what file
size you'll need for a reasonable image.
Jesse
p.s. I don't think you should need more than 150mb avail. RAM. - unless you
are using a supercomputer. if so i'd sell the supercomputer and buy a
roundshot. /
