RE: Airport xrays ( was: reversal film advice)

I didn't have any problems at all with fogging or streaking. Never used
the lead bag either...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
I have been told that if the operators of the x-ray machines at airports see
a black blob (your lead lined film bag) going through the machine, they
simply turn up the radiation level so that they can see into it, thus
increasing the chance of damaging your film...
...Ask for a hand search.
A new type of machine is being installed at airport in some cities in the UK
(and the USA), I don't think it uses radiation but a disclaimer beside the
machine informs you it can damage photographic film. A tale about a film
crew returning from a 3 months trip in some jungle and having part of the
film ruined is doing the rounds on other newsgroups.
The British Journal of Photography is performing some tests on the machine
at the moment and I believe the results are due in the next few weeks.
Best wishes
Jimmy
