Drew: Thanks for the reply. The ScanMaker 5 is available at a
number of reputable places for about $2050-$2100. PC Connection
has become way over priced in the last year. I too have come down
to essentially the same conclusion. I like the AGFA DuoScan and
the ScanMaker 5.
MicroTek claims 1000X2000 dpi with interpolated resolution of 8000
X 8000.
AGFA claims 1000 X 2000 dpi with interpolated resolution. It is
available for about $2100-$2200. I like the innovative "simplicity" of
its mechanism which yields scanning efficiency and reliablitly:
"DuoScan is a versatile, high-resolution scanner that incorporates
an innovative TwinPlate Scanning Technology, enabling users to
scan reflective artwork and transparencies on independent scan
beds within a single, integrated unit. Transparencies are placed on a
tray, which slides into the body of the scanner. A single carriage,
carrying light sources, optics, and a CCD sensor, traverses
between the upper glass plate for reflectives and the transparency
tray below. The only mechanical movement that occurs when you
switch from reflective to transparency scanning is the rotation of the
single mirror."
I will let you and the group know of what else turns up or is referred
by a group member.
