new website and scanner disscussion

Hi,

I have been lurking on this list for sometime now. I don't believe I have ever
announced my website, if so this is a repost of an updated site. anyway I have
samples of my Noblex 175U images as well as various 35mm, 4x5 (just starting)
and some stereo images as well (soon I'll be trying stereo 6x17 images).

The main website is at:
      http://www.slip.net/~dvint/
and the photos can be found at:
      http://www.slip.net/~dvint/photo.shtml
The pans are spread out on several different pages as I don't shoot this
exclusivly (yet!). Also check out the link to my "travels" page for some
addtional photos but now with stories. Anyone tried shooting from a chartered
fishing boat while hand holding the Noblex. IU shot some images at the sailing
of the USS Constitution last year that are at:
    http://www.slip.net/~dvint/travel/sailing/constitution.shtml

Anyway, let me know what you think.

I've also been looking for a new scanner to handle the various formats that I
use. I currently have a flatbed Umax that is several years old. It has a max
optical resolution of 1200dpi, I don't know what the dmax is but it seems low.
I'm looking for the kext scanner that will handle my web needs as well as a
desire to drive my new Epson Photo Stylus. I'm debaiting if the scanners with
the slide drawer really offer any advantage that is noticable not just
marketing. I'm looking at the Microtex Scanmaker 5 (but haven't seen one in
person or demo) vs the Umax Powerlook III (that just drop price) which has the
same specs except the drawer. The next one I was looking at would be a
Poloroid 45 film scanner at 7-$8,000 or the Umax Powerlook 3000 that boasts
better specs and has a ridgid mount scanning unit with the object being moved.
This is reported to be close to drum scanner capabiltiy with less cost. The
next I would be interested in if it didn't cost as much as a new car would be
the Imacon that has been talked about. Problem is money and not being able to
see any of them in person. The Powerlook III is probably where I will go
(anyone need a backup scanner with transparancey adapter? I'll have an extra
that I need to sell. All images on my site were made with it.) but with the
new price drop it makes me think that they might be coming out with a newer
model or maybe the 3000 will also come down in price. Checkout the Umax
scanners at: www.umax.com - B&H carries them but not at the best prices, look
at wwww.envisions.com for the Powerlook III.
