The highest lpi you will probably be using is 133. Therefore a scan at 300dpi
is more than adequate.

Since you cannot handle very large files, instead of printing 8x10s for flatbed
scan you should print about the actual size of the postcard. This way you are
not scanning information you will be discarding anyway when you size the photo.

The quality you will get may depend on the subject. By creating a print, you
are already going thru an additional step. If the neg or slide has a huge range
of contrast, you are better off drum scanning the original. If the range is
relatively low, a home scan should do.
