For panoramic photos, the diagonal film distance as *standard* focal length 
might not apply.  For example:

6x12     diagonal  134mm
6x17     diagonal  180mm
6x24     diagonal  247mm

I think 90mm lens seems to be a popular one for 6x17 cameras, while 75mm for 
6x12 cameras and 120mm for 6x24 cameras!?
