This holiday season I got some new books that might interest all you pan
photogs out there.
The first is a new book on EO Goldbeck, with some pics that weren't in the
other two books on him. It's quite reasonable as well. You can find it on
amazon.com and other places. . I have all three books on him and it seems
pretty good. And he even shot with banquet cameras- the xpan of the time.

Another is a heavy thick book on Josef Sudek, with a bunch of his panoram
photos, as well as a lot of his other work. The book is by Anna Farova and
is published by Kehayoff. An expensive but beautiful photo book showing
much of Sudek's life work. The thing I've noticed almost immediately is
that he experimented with many formats and styles, and must have had a
curious nature, as well as a great eye. A very interesting photographer.
Anyone else find any interesting Pan books coming out this year?

By the way , I can definately see a place for the xpan, and consider aspect
ratio to be the factor that makes a pan picture. Although I love my
roundshots (I have two), and my cirkuts (I have every size , and plan to
shot with all of them, though I've only used the #5, #8, and #10 so far) I
still have a good time with my 8x20, and my 8x10 with a split back, and
woundn't mind having a 6x17 or xpan for those times I don't feel like
carrying around a tripod. Well, I've spent enough money, and want to get my
#16 cirkut going If I can. I've seen some great photos shot with dianas and
pinholes. Ultimately it's the user that counts, although for the effects we
pan people are looking for, the tools are important. Jamie Young in WI
