Hi, I have the Stylus EX which is virtually the same machine except that it
will take wider paper.
1. Can it print up to 44"?
Yes
2. How do you find the running costs?
Not bad if you buy archival inks and paper in bulk.
3. Have you tried refilling with 3rd party inks?
Been using MIS inks and papers with good success. (www.mis.com) The process
can be a little bit messy, but cleans up well with water. Saves a lot of
money though.
4. Would this printer also be suitable for use as a general purpose
printer (i.e. black text)?
Text is fine, but not laser quality.
5. Have you found the ink to smear or fade?
Been using the archival inks for a few months and they don't easily fade, and
are quite smear water resistent. Much better than the Epson inks have been so
far (though I hear new inks are on the way).
