You should be aware that not all NASA imagery is public domain.
Astronomical imagery I should think is. But for images that depict
identifiable astronauts, NASA logos or mission patches, these have to be
cleared by NASA for COMMERCIAL usage and possibly by the person depicted
in the image (for example "Buzz" Aldrin on the moon). The question here
is not one of copyright but of getting releases or approval from the
individual. With Nasa logos and mission patches , the concern is about
NASA appearing to endorse a product or service. I know this this going
to blow steam up somebody's trousers (or skirts) but save your
hyperventilating for your buddies at your local tavern. These are the
rules. i know because i had to deal with them this summer. (And the
legal and PR guys at NASA were extremely courteous and helpful.)
