Re: Fuji 617 Roll Thru
Dear Colin,
I hope you don't mind hearing from a girly-guy .. . .but whenever I've had
trouble with the winding mechanism, it's needed professional help. Send it
in.
Mine has jammed a few times, and when it jams, you can't wind it at all. You
do, of course have the option of taking the top off the camera and disabling
the counting mechanism by tying some dental floss to just the right lever in
the winding mechanism (wiggle all the levers until you figure out which one
will allow you to wind to your heart's content). Then you load a roll of
film so the arrow is 1/4 inch past the red dot, it's 7 full cranks to the
first frame, 3 2/3 cranks to the second frame, 3 1/3 cranks to the 3rd frame,
and 3 cranks to the final frame. After some practice, I can now do this in
15 minutes. It does not fix the mechanism, but it does allow me to get
through a job.
There have been some winding/counting mechanisms that get metal fatigue in
some critical place, and my experience is that the whole mechanism then needs
to be replaced.
