Re: Noblex Warranty

The buyer of a new camera in the U.S. has long been openly free to buy most
brands of new cameras in 2 ways:
(1) The camera has been officially imported into the U.S. by the
manufacturer & includes a warranty card specifying a full U.S. warranty
honored by the manufacturer in the U.S.
or:
(2) The camera has been unofficially imported into the U.S. by someone
other than the manufacturer (grey market) & has a warranty honored by
perhaps the dealer but definitely not by the manufacturer.
Method (1) may give the user more confidence & less headaches in the event
of needing service during the warranty period but almost certainly at a
significantly higher cost than method (2). There is nothing illegal about
the importing of cameras into the U.S. by someone other than the
manufacturer as long as the manufacturer does not have its headquarters in
the U.S. This means that most brands of cameras are legally available as
grey market (Mamiya is a notable exception).
The bottom line is that as long as the vendor honestly states whether a new
camera has a warranty and if so, who will honor it, then there is nothing
shady about method (2).
