Ratio?  All we do is butt the overlapping ends together using Photoshop.
Normally, my clients do the scanning and photoshop connecting before going
to print, so I don't have to worry about this phase - and actually I'd rather

be concerned with the responsibility of color, compositing and file sizes

i don't normally know all the intended uses.
Unlike your creations, my pans from roofs have usually been for specific real
estate clients and I really don't care about maintaining creative control 
like you do.
