Subject: Why Steinheils
Dr. T asked (among other things), "Will a wide-angle adapter
help me take better pictures?"
YES!
I think I can best explain by analogy. Consider the creative
flattie 35 mm SLR photographer with only a normal lens on
his camera. He'll outshine the equipment loaded no talent
amateur every time. But might not that creative pro be even
better with more lens options in his equipment arsenal?
That's how I view the wide angle adapter. It gives me another
lens choice. I've found it useful in several situations. The
most obvious one that comes to mind was when I did a wedding
in stereo, and faced that tight sitting room. I had more
choices in my set-ups because I had "another lens." Think of
the times you wished you could include just a little more in
your shot, and you couldn't back up to do it. This happened
again to me in Hamburg, Germany where I needed to slip on the
Steinheils to get part of a schooner's masts in the shot which
I took from the dock. I'd have had to swim or taken a rowboat
out to get that shot without the adapter.
I guess if you think owning both 50 mm and 35 mm lenses for
2D SLR photography is unnecessary, you probably would feel the
same about using Steinheils. I won't use quotes, but it goes
something like this:
First it's a luxury. Then it's a convenience. Finally,
It's a necessity.
I think I,m between luxury and convenience. I do enjoy the
option my Steinheils afford me.
