Beatles & VM Hoaxes, Boston Alert

          To follow up on my gratuitous posting on the Beatles et al
          in 3-D, I should clear up a hoax some of you may have heard
          of. One of my 3D aquaintices told me a few years ago that a
          collector/prankster friend of his placed an ad in trade
          papers that went something like:

               WANTED: Viewmaster packet of the Beatles at Shea
               Stadium.

          He just wanted to create a stir out there!

          BTW: several of my friends have made their own phoney VM
          packets of local sights using unfolded, packet templates and
          laser copiers. They look like the real thing, and they've
          tried fooling each other with their "rare" scenics paks. Of
          course, some folks out there have unknowingly purchased rare
          reel sets that come with forged laser copied covers and
          wrappers. Other, ethical dealers (DDDalia for one) tell you
          up-front what the equally more-collectible wrapper is worth.

          BTW: "Warning...Warning" to all you Bean Town 3-Ders (Jon,
          Ron, etc.).  Since I have few shots of historic, first-rate
          personalities, I'm reduced to going to trade shows and such
          to capture my favorite, washed-up Boomer celebs. I'm half
          thinking of taking the Red Eye up to the Boston Expo Center
          this weekend to document the 30th Anniversary "Lost In
          Space" TV Cast Reunion.  Anyone else going? "Oh...The Pain,
          The Pain!"
