I just read a (very positive) review of a new auto-everything SLR from
Sigma. The reviewer pointed out that an electronic release was required,
but that Sigma sold a cordless release (for that particular camera) that
was much cheaper than similar gadgets from other manufacturers. It comes
in two versions, a cheap single-channel version & a more expensive
3-channel version "so as not to fire another camera by mistake". My
immediate thought was, "How silly! Of course you'd want to be able to fire
more than one camera!" :-)
