Kodak And Hyperfocus

I've been conversing with Gil Van Horn who had an
interesting want ad in the July/August issue of
Stereo World. He has found that with the Kodak Stereo
if you try to hyperfocus (e.g., place the infinity mark
opposite the aperture being used to extend the
depth of field in the foreground) the background
at infinity is not sharp (it is sharp if you focus
on infinity). Even if you use the "Scenes" marking
the problem is the same. I haven't owned my
Kodak long enough to have tried it and being
the monsoon season here in the NW it may be
awhile before I can. I've gotten out of the habit of
using hyperfocus because Canon refuses to properly
mark its lens's, but Gil's observation might explain
some of the softness I noticed in a few of my stereo
shots (I know I was doing it I just forgot to note which
shots). Gil thinks that Kodak mismarked the f-stops
on the lens (and he's tried 6 Kodaks with the same
result) and he's noticed this on a few other
cameras but not as severe.

If anyone has run into this or has any ideas please let me
know (for my own interest) and I'll pass it along.

Also today I saw some wonderful lenticulars from the mid-60's
including a "Christ on the Cross" that nearly everyone
I know of associates with lenticulars. They look fantastic
with bright wonderful color and great depth (but also the
usual shortcomings of this format). It's everything that
Nimslo/Image Tech should be but sadly isn't. There was even a
print and screen kept separate as a demo. Quite fascinating.
I was told that these were produced on an 8 lens 35mm camera
(which seems hard to believe given the resolution on
the 11" x 14" 's) but other details will be a while in coming.
The one bit of info I have is that some of the photos had
the name "Jones 3-D" "W.C. Jones Publishing Co." of
Los Angeles on them and were printed in Japan. Does anyone
know anything about this company?

Thanks,
Tim
