surplus auctions (for silver screens)....

Absolutely right. This is a great way to be able to afford our sometimes
expensive pursuit. There is no way I could have come as far as I have with
the different formats if it wasn't for relentlessly looking at auctions, flea
markets, school surplus sales, etc. I bought my first silver screen for $5
at a flea market. I found my Ektagraphic proj's for $70 each at a surplus
store. I would not have started stereo projection without these finds, I'd
still be waiting. Since it is hard to find exactly what you want when you
want it, you can take advantage of surplus and auctions by finding great
deals on conventional photo stuff and trading with used camera dealers that
do not specialize in stereo but have some items anyway. I did this to get
my Viewmaster outfit. At a school surplus sale I found a 16x20 SEAL dry
mount press upside down in a corner of a classroom , behind about 100 chairs.
I dug it out, and the price tag was $5. Bought it and took it to a camera
dealer and traded for a Viewmaster outfit. This kind of treasure hunting
actually intensifies the kick from the stereo pursuit.
