Finally, Chris has come to his senses... I don't use a tripod either and 
I am not concerned about leveling.  I don't think that rotating the chips
is a good idea though...

There must be some happy medium between those two extremes...  I am still
waiting for the solid-rock tripod that you can put in your pocket...
