3D with P &Shoot ZOOM?

I'd like to plumb the list's collective experience with the details of
making stereo pairs with separate point and shoot cameras.

Question: How closely matched do the two camera's focal lengths have to be?
I'd like to use a zoom that goes from about 35 to 90. That way you
could for sure match up the focal lengths at the extremes (35 and 90 mm).
Does anyone have any experience in between? Some cameras have focal
lengths marked on the top of the lens barrel, and you could use this to
get the focal lengths _similar_, but certainly not exactly the same. So:
How closely matched do the two camera's focal lengths have to be?

Question: any advice on which _small_ (we'll tie the pair around our
necks when we fly our paragliders) point and shoot zoom cameras to buy or
not to buy would be appreciated.

Thanks
