Optic Mirage 3-D display from Edmund Scientific

I am looking for information on optic Mirage (a trademark from some co.).
Edmund Scientific sells the displays. Please see Edmund 1995 catalog, page
217, Item # E72,381.
It consists of two 9" dish-shape mirrors (one upside down). Very simple.
It can generate fantastic 3-D images that appear on top of the disc.
I would like to know more about the display as follows:

1. Original inventor
2. Any technical details about the operational prinicple of the display
3. Any special design guidline (surface spherical or parabolic? separation
between the discs, top opening size, etc.)

Any information related with the 3-D display would be greatly appreciated.
