last word on Colorist
I'm the original TDC Colorist booster 'round here. :-)
I DO seem to use it more than my 2.8 - I guess that means
that I take more "casual" shots than planned "art" shots.
The Colorist I has a centered viewfinder, an inch or so
above the taking lens. The Colorist II adds to the parallax
problems by have the combined rangefinder/viewfinder
positioned over the left lens. That model, the Vivid and
certain Edixias are the only models with this "moderne"
feature. This superimposed focus feature makes for quicker
snaps (in good lighting :-) ).
To repeat my anecdote about its sharpness: I viewed some
slides two years ago I had just took. They were standard
outdoor images, but I said to myself "Wow, my 2.8 is worth
EVERY PENNY I dumped into it!" Then, it dawned on me that
these ultra sharp shots were taken with my humble Colorist.
TRUE, The lens are screw-synched & sometimes don't focus
evenly at certain distances; the construction is, er,
delicate and flimsy; the winding knobs hurt your fingers; no
standard lens filters or covers; the winding spool is known
to snap off its axle; and...I wouldn't trade mine for the
world!
LS
PS: Ultra-Sharp camera lenses and slides are just a concept
unless you use fine grain film, a flash/tripod/steady-hand,
and have a nice, sharp, bright viewer (plug for Dr. T. :-)).
Also, I too made a digital blow-up print of a
colorist/Kchrome 64 slide and was impressed. It looks as
good or BETTER to me then the standard Medium format prints
that wedding photographers provide.
