Dual camera convergence points

I often see discussions on the list about dual camera systems for
stereoscopic photography. I don't, however, recall any mention of
intentionally creating a convergence point. Is it recommended that the
cameras be positioned perfectly parallel?

(Isn't there an intentional convergence point at 30 x the base, more or
less 7 feet, built into the Realsit?)

I have shot some dual 6 x 6 cm prints using this technique. (2 Bronicas)
The prints (11" x 14") were mounted one above the other, and viewed with a
prism viewer.

Because I shoot 3D video, convergenge may be more important to me, as the
convergence point indicates the distance from the viewer of the screen upon
which it is watched. Thus, I can create some pretty convincing positive
paralax effects. I often have people reach out and try to touch the
'protruding' objects.
