Oops, you are right, Eric. I meant to indicate a dolly shot as opposed
to a pan (I *guess* it would still be a dolly shot in Virtual Space :-)
The trick of course it to find a dolly move without too much (preferably
none) movement in the frame as it's taking place.
Along these lines I noted an interesting effect once while driving South
along the Wasatch Mountains on I-5 (or is it I 15 - I forget) from
Salt Lake City. The terrain is such that it's pretty flat in the
lake basin and the the mountains jump up rather suddenly. I discovered
as I drove along at 55 (of course) that I was seeing a distinct hyper-stereo
effect as the closer peaks moved along in relationship to the ones
farther away. I got so involved with that it got downright dangerous
(ie, looking out the window rather than towards the front!).
I assume this is due to some kind of limitation on the "frame rate" that
the brain (or at least mine ;-) can use to process visual information. If
you are moving fast enough, it works...
