CSCC Competition Classes
Joel Alpers writes regarding the Chicago Stereo Camera Club:
>>The CSCC has 3 classes of competition, B, A and AA. Cardboard, including
>>commercially mounted (e.g., Kodalux), is allowed in the introductory
>>classification B, although most are entered in glass. Glass-mounted slides
>>are "required" in the other 2 classes, although RBT mounts are also
>>fine.
>Ron, thanks for the clarification. How does someone in your club

>rules? Just curious...
Everyone that joins the club starts automatically in class B, regardless of
stereo renown. There is a Classification Chair for any given competition year
(Nov. to Oct.), and two other members he/she chooses to be on the Classification
Committee. At the end of the year, they look at point rankings of members
generated from the six competition meetings. They look at rankings in
each class according to points garnered, average points per slide entered,
and (I believe) number of honorable mentions and awards. They then make
a decision on which members should be moved up to the next classification,
ask them if they really want to be moved up, and announce the changes
at the year-end awards dinner. There are no specific requirements on
points earned, etc., and generally the top few scorers in each class
move up one class in any given year. You can only enter competitions
in your class, and separate honorable mentions and awards are given in
each class, although Slide of the Month comes from any class. No one
knows what class a particular slide is from when judging for points.
This sounds complicated when I describe it, but it's really not in practice.
I might add for those taken aback at these sorts of "rules" that no one
cares what class you're in, and many long-time members who only occasionally
compete are in class B, along with new members who compete fully and are
extremely talented, so class B is actually a dynamic, interesting category,
and often nets the Slide of the Month award. The club isn't overly
competitive anyway--a fairly mellow and friendly group.
