AC Viewer Ill-umination

Following Dr. T's recent comments on AC viewer bulbs, I have a situation of
my own.

I'm sitting here looking at depressing Kodachrome Realist-format slides in my
rheostat-equipped AC viewer.  I'm wondering, which setting should I use for
the bulb brightness, depressing or depressing-er?
