ANNOUNCEMENT: 3d@xxxxxx

Now that the holidays are behind me, it's time to start thinking
about the next 3D@xxxxx

I've been collecting inputs from people both publicly and privately.
It's clear that not everyone will get _everything_ they want, but
hopefully we can build on the success and many good features Elliott
worked so hard for in 3d@xxxx, and improve on a couple of things
in the process!

This is the proposal I have for discussion:

1. Voting stays, as most feedback (sorry, George ;) seems to prefer
it. We'll retain that voting is optional, and people may elect
to remove their slides from voting. I'm tempted to forgo the
"newbie" and "amateur" classes, and instead class voting by
format (i.e. a winner in the "ViewMaster" category, one for
   41x101, etc.) Thoughts?
I want to emphasize that the voting is for FUN! Everyone is
encouraged to take part. I'll donate some suitable prizes.

2. We'll make the shipping easier and smaller, and trust the postal
service (or UPS if you prefer) Anyone concerned about the loss
of slides is encouraged to submit good quality dupes.

3. I like George's comments about "exhibition" vs "competition". We'll
lean this more towards an exhibition, while retaining the voting.
This means that each person will be asked to submit a bit of
information about each image submitted - what the subject is, how
the image was made, and any other things of interest.

4. FEEDBACK - this will be strongly encouraged. Each entrant will provide
their email address, and each person is encouraged to email feedback
on any and all images that they are impressed with (or feel that they
can offer constructive feedback on). In addition, I'll include space
on the "info sheet" of each entry for feedback, if someone wishes to
give anonymous feedback (or hates email ;)

5. There will be _some_ entry fee ($5?) primarily used for defraying
the cost of the interational shipping for those of us in other
countries. In addition, each person will be responsible for shipping
costs to the next person on the list.

This will be a fantastic opportunity, especially for stereo newcomers, to
see a wide range of 3D work in various formats! All formats are open -
ViewMaster, Realist (not Kodak ;) ;), European, prints, computer generated,
etc. etc.
I'll be happy to include some medium format samples for people to see.

VIEWERS
-------

Many thanks to Dr. George T, who has agreed to donate a "themelized"
viewer for the duration of the expo!!!

I will provide viewers for ViewMagic, ViewMaster, and medium format.

Can anyone provide a decent viewer for Holmes format? Something better
than the "lorgnette" thingies? Need not be an antique viewer, and of
  course the lighter the better...

I would like to have a submission deadline in the 2/15 timeframe. Is that
long enough for you to get some images together???
