I can't say it's innovative, but I use GEPE split 35mm frame glass mounts
for my 3d slides. Gepe contends that the black side should face the
projection lens to avoid projecting any flare and the white side should face
the lamp housing to throw back heat so that the slide doesn't overheat. It
all seems logical to me.
This does put the white side toward me in the viewer; but since the light
source is now behind the slide (and not particulary high in heat output)
there doesn't seem to be any flare bouncing back up through the viewer.
Thus the same mounting orientation for both uses seems satisfactory;
certainly more so than the risk inherent in constantly handling the slides
during remounting for different purposes.
