#From working on several super rare reels I can tell you, that a new owner
#will have no problem telling if a reel has been repaired. The repair is a
#repair at best the condition will never be as good as an original glue job.
A
#glued reel loses much of the original stiffness, and sofar I have not found
a
#better way. For the amount of work involved it is not worth the effort
unless
#it is a rare reel. Also I agree 100% that if the reel is sold the buyer
#should be told and not left to find out for themselves. However I like most
#people only work on reels I will most likely never see again, so there is
not
#a question of value involved.
Another glue that works EXTREMELY WELL for this is a any plain old $.99 "glue
stick" just remove the chips carefully, paste up one reel half, and carefully
replace the chips to their correct positions, then paste the other half reel,
and gently lower it into place over the first half with the chips attached. I
have found that the weight of several large books for a few days makes this
bond "good as new". However, I to have to agree with both of the previous
posts that a "fixed" reel should never be sold unless the fact that it was
repaired is clearly mentioned. However, a rarer "fixed" reel, can fit into a
collection nicely! =)
