RE: Revere Flash Hot Shoe Adapter
I just bought one of these from Reel 3d for $17.95 (pretty steep for a
little piece of aluminum with a hole in it). I did not know of the
tricks that have just come to light on this list or I might have
reconsidered. I wanted the Realist for close-up indoor shots, so I
placed the order with Reel 3-d when I placed the order with Dr. George
T. for the Realist.
Your electronic flash does not go into the adapter, they suggest you
mount it on an L-bracket. The aluminum adapter was a little snug. I
mounted my flash on an old aluminum L-bracket I had laying around
(after reversing the molded plastic handle, the Realist is the only
camera I have ever owned with the shutter release on the left side). I
ran a short pc cord from adapter to the flash. I then turned on the
flash, cocked the shutter, focused in on Lilly, "Most High Queen of
the Felines" and hit the release. There was the almost soundless
click of the shutter and, oops, _no_ light. I manually trigger the
flash; yup, that works. It turns out I had put the adapter in
backwards (par for the course, for me). In my defense, I must state
that there are no markings to indicate which way is correct. The unit
appears to be working fine now.
The L-bracket took a little getting used to. It does not get in the
way of the focus knob, and it does keep me from putting my fingers
over the right-side range-finder opening. I do have to loosen it to
release the camera back, it covers that little lever on the bottom.
I kind of like it, now, because the molded hand grip gives me
something to grasp the camera with.
Even though I don't like spending money on something I may not have
needed, having the hot shoe adapter/pc cord has already got me
thinking about creative lighting techniques from using off camera
flash...
