Light Leaks in the Realist

I just got back my first roll from my Stereo Realist. For the most
part, the shots turned out great! I am really pleased with the
     camera.

The exposures were fine, except for a few that had a vertical light
streak running through the right third of the right image (when
     mounted).

These were on the shots when my wife and I were sledding with my
brother-in-law and his family. We were out there for over two hours
in almost blinding sun (due to the reflective light from the snow). I
guess the leak occurred when I was just standing around, as pictures
that I took in rapid succession were not affected.

I have looked through the Photo-3d archives and found a number of
     different suggestions for fixing this.

The idea I liked the least was physically bending parts of the metal
flange. The most benign (though most klugey) was placing a strip of
black electrician's tape over the crack. The one that seems good (to
me) is using a small amount of black silicone rubber in the grooves.

Anyone having experience with this care to share your thoughts before
I attempt to ruin, oops, remedy the situation?
