Help wanted from someone out there.
I'm looking for some information on an old viewer. Table top
version, wood and brass. Holds large, glass slides. Has a light
and a simple slide cassette. This New Zealander wishes to know
how to preserve the glass slides, lenses and some history or any
information about the viewer. Can he copy the slides for safe
keeping?
The viewer seems to be in working order but how does one
check these things out? Position of the lens, mirrors and all? It
came with over 250 glass slides of people and street scenes
from New Zealand around the year 1912. Maybe a hint to the
age of the viewer.
A find like this is quite rare in New Zealand. The museum owner
said he had only seen one like it in his life and that was in
England and it was in poor shape.
The wording on the plaque is: Le-Taxiphote Stereo-Classeur,
Automatique. Distributer Brevete S.G.D.G. Looks like it may be
of French origin.
Can anyone offer some input here?
