Please don't split the list!
I'm a relative newcomer to stereo photography and, by reading photo-3d, I'm
regularly finding out about things I didn't even know existed! Like Alan Lewis,
I have no problem with seeing old questions repeated. As he says, new answers
often come to the surface.
I'd also like to comment on John B's reasons for thinking that subscribers are
not reading everything, since I think they may not be totally valid. He bases
part of his conclusion on the fact that previously answered questions are often
repeated.
Now, I _do_ read every digest from end to end. (I'm more likely to complain
that it's been a quiet day than that the digest is too long!) This may not,
however, stop me from asking a dumb question some day, since I have an appalling
memory.
Also, my interests change with time. For example, I recently bought a Nimslo.
In the past, I would certainly have read the Nimslo-related postings but, as I
had no immediate use for them, I may easily have forgotten the details. Now, I
want to know things about the Nimslo, and I might well post a question or two.
I can't promise that these questions won't have been asked previously.
I know that the _right_ answer is to search the archive before posting.
Unfortunately, from my location in the UK, I find it quite difficult to access
the bobcat site - ten or more attempts to connect are not at all unusual. Even
when I'm connected, data transfer is often incredibly slow. These problems do
mean big connect time charges, whereas downloading mail is, for me, quick, easy
and inexpensive.
I'm not criticising, btw, I'm just glad that the site is there at all, and I
do appreciate the efforts that are put in to maintaining it. It does explain,
however, why I don't always use the archive to supplement my bad memory, and
it's surely possible that other list subscribers have the same problems.
For these reasons and more, please don't split the list. It's just wonderful as
it is!
