Bob, I think we should distinquish between "cheap" and inexpensive. Take
for example the VM format: 72 pairs in one roll. Cheap processing,
mounting. Cheap existing viewers. That's as inexpensive as it gets.
Still, there is room for good photography that will please the client, once
he knows what he is getting. Same for the Realist format. A few people
asked me if the prints will look to the eye as good as the Realist slide
they were looking at. That's because they interpreted the realism of the
3-d picture as an extra photographic quality of the image.
Alan Lewis is a dedicated professional offering a complete package. Not
many professional photographers have the interest or skills to do what Alan
is doing. And not many 3-d hobbyists are ready to drop their day jobs to
get into professional photgraphy. What's left is the dedicated and
dependable hobbyist, supplementing professional wedding photography with
good quality and relatively inexpensive 3-d. I think it can work out.
