Re: format image comparisons

If we have 3 identical images in VM, Realist and Medium format
and view them with achromat viewers with ortho lenses (for their
format) we now have only one difference: magnification (and thus
visibility) of film grain.
In undetailed areas the VM will show the most grain, the
Realist next and the medium format less still. If fine grained
film is used the grain may be not be visible in the MF viewer
because of its comparitively low magnification. So it may
have a significantly different "feel" than a Realist or VM
image (smooth versus grainy perhaps).
Depending on your sensitivity to grain this may or may not
make a difference. But for me it is one of the reasons I am
exploring medium format 3d (other reasons include my love
of toys and love of building things :).
I don't have a decent MF viewer yet so I can't make
definitive statements about MF vs Realist. Not yet,
but in a few months, perhaps.
