Before proceeding any further, buy Dr. T's Model D repair manual and fix it, clean it and upgrade it according to his instructions. We've worked on a many a Model D ourselves and we can't think of anything that Dr. T ommitted in this fine work. My friends at the VM plant agreee! 

Take the time to get the book and follow his instructions to get your Model D back into
"almost new" condition. Better yet, send it to him to do for you!!!
