To pick up on the VM vs. Realist vs. Medium Format Thread...
I was recently reading an article about the LEEP System and it's inventor Eric Howlett. Howlett's optical systems and inventions are pretty incredible but I'll leave that for others more familiar with optics to talk about.
Anyhow, Howlett has a theory, or a rule that applies to viewing a stereoscopic image. He identifies a "principal of immersion" as:
The diameter of the opening or aperture (of the viewer) your eyes look through to see the image must be TWICE the distance between the opening and the center of the eyeball. So if the aperture is one inch from the center of your eye, the opening must be two inches in diameter.
If Howletts rule is not followed, the edges of the scence will be visible, which defeats the immersion principal.
Nevertheless... I know I don't have any viewers like this. Do you?
Could this be one of the primary reasons that larger images, with larger viewers, with larger lenses are more appealing?
Hmmm... Stereoscopic Immersion... hadn't really thought about it. Whadoyathink about that John B?

Bob Mannle
