RE: Realist vs any other Realist format!
The thing that perhaps causes it to be called clunky is its greatest feature,
human engineered to avoid the nose!!! This to me (for those who have learned ot HOLD IT RIGHT) is a major advantage. It can be hand held much more steady that any ordinary camera resting on the forehead. THe f/.2.8 is better in the corners than the f/3.5 lens when both are near WIDE OPEN..Since most stereo is taken with max depth of field at small f/stops (high number) the triplet performs quite well. The Cooke triplet of H. Dennis Taylor 1898 was a remarkable achievement as it is the least number of elements that make an anastigmat and replaced the then popular rapid rectalinear lens in all types of cameras The Tessar of 1902 is derived from it but Zeiss never would acknowlege it. (A triplet with a compound third element..the British Ross Express lens had a three element rear component!) BobH
