indigestion, sunshades,

Hello all,

First of all, I won't pull any punches here, I hate these mini-digests. I could easily browse through a 40k digest, looking for the subject headings that interest me in about 10 minutes. Most digest subscribers do so because they want to reduce the number of mail messages. I get my list at work, and don't really have a blessing to collect unlimited personal e-mail. Please at least offer a daily digest option.

This weekend, I found a pair of sunshade/filter holders for the Realist at the local flea market, and they make the camera look even more beautiful. I snapped them on and wandered around town shooting yesterday. It was a bright, clear, beautiful, f16 kind of day, and I clicked off a whole roll of shots and got lots of excercise... walked all the way to Brooklyn and back. Many goodies of the Brooklyn Bridge and a bunch of Skateboard punk kids. I got stopped several times, often by photographers, with questions about the camera, which didn't happen as often without the shades. My question is... do these sunshades actually do anything (besides holding filters, which I haven't experimented with yet), or are they just conversation pieces? Will I notice a difference in my slides?

Also, I ran into a pro photographer acquaintance who suggested that I compensate my shutter speed (slower) for the cold weather, something about the emulsion slowing down. I had taken shots in the cold before, with fine results. What's the deal on this? For perfectionists only?

I'm also unclear about something brought up in the VM vs. Realist discussion.
I experimented around my house standing in the place where I took a certain picture, held up the red button, and realised that I am actually seeing, full-scale, what I saw when I took the picture. Is this the case with the VM?

Still full of questions,

-E
