>Seems like I keep hearing that Realist is a better camera than my dear Revere33. Could it be true? (I'm not talking about the fancy Realist with the fast lens, just the garden variety one.) It's hard to believe there could be an improvement in image quality over what I get, but then, I've never seen side by side comparisons.
I used to think my Revere's were inferior to the standard Realist until I had them overhauled. During this, the rangefinders were recalibrated. My improved slides now make me believe the two cameras are equal. The Revere is more like a modern camera than the Realist and its reliability is the roughly the same to perhaps a touch worse. (Especially if judged by the number of "busted Realist" posts on this list!) The Realist 2.8 does not vignette like the Revere or the Realist 3.5, but neither does the Wollensak, which is the Revere upgrade. Realist 2.8's are much more common than the Wollensaks.
