I would agree with George..it is the quartz bulb that might be able to pass UV (the part of the spectrum that harms eyes), BUT tungsten filaments are a poor source of UV. The danger in quartz bulbs is not the halogen lamps, but the so called "Sterilamps" or biological lamps that were used in refrigerators and packing plants etc. These output 2537 Ang wavelength to kill bacteria and cause conjunctivitis with exposure to eyes. Ordinary glass doesn't pass the harmfull UV or we would all be blind from our ordinary flourescent lamps that abound! BobH
