I would recommend checking at a local camera store for a flash that has a
diffuser across the front. Most SLR cameras have 35mm (or less, I have a
28mm) and you should be able to find a flash that spreads enough light for
such a lens.

Again, a diffuser to spread the light better might help. At times I also
use a second strobe with a "light sensing" attachment. This fires the
second strobe whenever the primary strobe goes off. It looks like a hot
shoe with an electric eye on the front. I use it mainly for my slide
duplicator and for side fill lighting.
