The keyword filter isn't a secret - here it is for you regular
expression types:
* ( |^)christ([^a-z]|$)|( |^)olga([^a-z]|$)|( |^)rhodes([^a-z]|$)|( |^)jesus([^a-z]|$)|subscribe( |$)|free.*money|postca
rd|( |^)attention.*all.*business([^a-z]|$)|.*net-listserv-List.*|sorgi|atomic|( |^)postpone([^a-z]|$)|( |^)arsenal([^a-z
]|$)|GLASRUD|KandJLink|( |^)nuclear([^a-z]|$)|The Long March|^Subject:.*FREE Trial Pack of Middle School|COME.*OUT!|NETO
|potential_new_members_FREE|pre-employment|syllabus.com|DISCARD!!!|295\+|puzzler\@cris.com|For.*MEN.*the.*USA.*Only|Pass
ionFRUIT|216-6193|MAKE.*CASH.*FAST|Fred.Sterling\@zygn.com|Southwind|Promo.*Enterprises|www.sunsetdirect|Subject:.*aids|
DJSA|Encoding:.*base64|WINMAIL.DAT
You old hands on the internet can probably recognize the spams where most
of these came from (in mostly chronological order). The most recent ones
are to catch the base 64 and WINMAIL.DAT mailings which people seem unable
to control as far as their software appending mostly useless junk to text
only messages (and which listproc 6.0c can't handle very well).
Note these are the EXTERNAL filters - the internal filters for Listproc
are the ones which look for a lot administrivia messages - and under the terms
of the license distribution, it does not appear that I can readily legally
make changes to the software (although that is being discussed somewhat
in the mailing list mailing list). I did manage to turn off the "subscribe"
check during the recent-meta discussion.
However, I also agree the the recent telecommunication bill passed here
in the states is EXTREMELY onerous - I have great hopes that it will be
vetoed without override, or lacking that, it will be voided by a
Supreme Court case since (IMHO) it clearly oversteps 1st amenedment
bounds ... I can really understand the terror of the politicians, though.
They are monkeying around with an extremely empowered group (ie,
computer literate, internet capable voters).
As far as the volume of stuff that the moderators deal with (which
fortunately I don't have to respond to most of the time - although
I see all of it - the 3d-mod guys do that), I'd say there are what,
20 to 30 messages a day which need dealing with (John?). If anyone
really likes, I can turn off all fitering for a couple of days and
just let the list run open. I think most people would probably find
the stuff pretty boring, though.
