RE: Ian Rivlin..and Kodachrome in 9mm MINOX!!

If any of the readers were wondering where such stuff came from and
how you would develop it you might like to know. Ian brought up the
subject to put in a plug for Kodachrome as a fine grain material. Some
years ago I by chance got into a mail correspondence with two Minox
nuts (and myself have an enlarger and have been fascinated by the
cameras.) One was Ralph Shomer n New Jersey and the other was Meredith
Brown in Whittier, CA. (He house was destroyed in the Whittier
earthquake and he move north and died a few years later.) Anyway,
these fellows slit 35mm Kodachrome to the 9mm width and reloaded the
cassettes. By chance Super-8 movie film is 9mm wide!!! So they just
conned a friendly processor into splicing it into rolls of movie film
being processed. From these transparencies they made giant 16x20
Cibachromes to amaze the populace. They use Kodachrome 25. BobH
(I think Microtec in San Diego probably slit and sold the stuff and
arranged processing, but these guys were the do it yourself type. I
have a slitter made by a retired machinist as a challenge when he was
81!)
