Unless, of course, you're talking about a Realist which has a beamsplitter
in it (as part of the rangefinder).  That beamsplitter ocassionally gets
tired and some folks would like to replace it but I understand that's
difficult.

A beamsplitter?  The Realist comes standard with a beamsplitter included?
