The biggest problem with this concept is that the camera's lenses invert the
photographic images. These images either have to be cut apart and reversed
left to right, or some mechanism in the camera has to reverse them when the
picture is being taken, like the Loreo. I suppose this could also be done in
the viewer but I think the general idea here is to have a simple, inexpensive
viewer, so that's out.
There are some other smaller problems:
The stereo window is shifted the wrong direction, making the edges uncomfortable
to view. This could be helped by moving the window left and right relative to
the lens, as in a tilt and shift lens or view camera, but placement of the
stereo window varies with the composition of the scene so this could only be
made better, not corrected.
What about misexposures? You couldn't throw away your bad shots (Do any of us
have any of these?) or what if you wanted to rearrange the order of the shots?
The electronic image idea is intriguing. These cameras are still about $1000
for the single image models although I see that they have been coming down
recently.
