Can shutter speeds be adjusted?

Recently I had the shutter speeds checked on two of my cameras, one a Revere33
and the other a Viewmaster Personal. For the most part, they were slow. Is it
possible and or practical to have a shutter cleaned and adjusted on one of these
old cameras, so that the shutter speed is fairly accurate with the marked
speeds?

On both of these cameras, I took some time to cock and fire them quite a bit
before testing in the hope that I could loosen up the shutters a bit. I have a
replacement lens board for the Revere in a box which has all the shutter
mechanism exposed, and it looks like the reason for the shutter speed slowdown
could be caused by one of two things-either springs which have some of their
springiness (seem fine, though) or gummy lubrication.

I'm curious as to the experiences of anyone who has had luck successfully fixing
this type problem. As it is, I now have a chart that tells me what the
effective shutter speed is for each camera setting, should I be happy with that
and just leave well enough alone?

Steve
