Kodak Finder Lens Scratch Fix?????

Recent postings have mentioned the problem of the easily scratched plastic finder
lens found in Kodak cameras. I too have one of these. During a recent disassemble and
cleaning of my Kodak, I removed the finder lens from its bracket and did the
following:

Using a fresh piece of lens paper, I rubbed a spot of paper on a plain white candle
(wax). I then transfered the wax to the finder lens surface with gently circular
motions leaving a thin hazy film of wax on its surface. Than, using a fresh piece of
lens paper, I gently buffed the surface until it was clear. I estimate over 95% of
the scratches disappeared. (probibly filled with the wax). It was a significant
improvement!

However, before I recommend this to anyone else, I wish to acquire the opinions of
others more experienced than I: what could the long term consequences of using wax on
this plastic lens be? Could a better wax be used? Any opinions?
