When I requested info on Viewmaster repair, I was referred to the photo 3-d
archives. There was quite a discussion in August, I believe about scratched
Kodak viewfinders, and it was noted that q-tips are quite often rayon these days
instead of cotton, which could scratch plastic. Then someone in the old issue
mentioned he had tried plastic polishes and didn't recommend them for optical
polishing. I still think the Meguiar's might do the job, but then I don't have
an extra plastic viewfinder around to "experiment" on.

Here is the info taken from the label of Meguiar's Mirror Glaze #17 Professional
Plastic Cleaner. "Cleans and removes fine scratches from clear plastics.
Meguiar's mirror glaze professional plastic cleaner is specifically formulated
to remove fine hairline scratches from all aircraft, boat, rv, motorcycle,
automotive, commercial and residential clear plastics. Ideal for both acrylic
and polycarbonate surfaces."

I've used the stuff on clear plastic before and was happy with the results, but
I haven't tried it on any plastic optics. The stuff isn't extremely abrasive,
so a bit of pressure and a lot of rubbing is involved. Cotton q-tips are
available, but you have to check the package to be sure.

Whether it's the stuff for viewfinders or not, I'll let those with a Kodak
decide. It is great for other plastic stuff that's scratched or scuffed. Be
careful with any plastic with painted lettering on it, because it will polish
the lettering right off.

PS. I am not affiliated with Meguiar's in any way, I am just a happy customer.
If you can't locate it, my bottle says Meguiar's Inc., Newport Beach CA 92660.
I believe it comes in different abrasive strengths, hence the #17. My bottle
was $6.95 for 8 oz. several years ago.

After looking back at the old digest, I feel like I should spend some time
reading the ones I missed, and reviewing all the ones I didn't. It seems like a
lot of this info just goes around and around, so thank you to all who have
answered my questions, some of which have already been addressed many times
before.
