Hey Marvin, you sound like me now... ;)
I am known to be open-minded when it comes to different formats of stereo
photography ;) , but I cannot help and agree with Marvin here... There are
a number of reasons that people will use a Nimslo to take stereo pictures
instead of a classic stereo camera. The two most important are:
1. Easy to use, automatic operation, no need to worry about exposure, etc.
2. Lightweight, can pack for a trip, in a bike, etc.
As Marvin said, and I totaly agree, you could use the Realist as a point
and shoot camera in a sunny day or with flash. In my opinion, there is not
much to worry when using a fully manual camera like the Realist. I have
given this camera to friends who had no idea about exposure, etc., and,
armed with only 2-3 settings, they took great pictures. In one case, a
friend of mine used a Realist in a trip to California, set at f11, 1/100
(w/100 ASA film) and focused at infinity. He came back with great slides.
I only realized what he was doing when he came back from Texas with slides
slightly overexposed.
Regarding argument No. 2, as I have said before, if I cannot take my
Realist, I will not go to the trip.
I have seen quite a few Nimslo slides. In most cases I wished that
the picture was taken with a regular stereo camera. In a few cases the
Nimslo worked well. In some cases, like close-ups, etc., the Nimslo works
very well. But, in my mind, for slide work the Nimlso is a specialized
camera and not a substitute for a real stereo camera.
